Motor vehicles and motor cycles can be shipped from the UK to the following ports by either a shared container service, sole use container service or the Roll On Roll Off (RORO) car ferry service.

Auckland
Wellington (note: no RORO service)
Christchurch (note: no RORO service)

Services to other ports in New Zealand via a sole use container service are also available.

Please bear in mind that it is always the owner's own responsibility to ensure that the vehicle meets the standards and regulations that apply, and that all applicable documents are presented to the authorities in New Zealand.

Prior to shipping a motor vehicle the owner must obtain a "Statement of Compliance". For motor cycles manufactured before 1st October 2002, this Statement does not need to be obtained, however proof of ownership will need to be provided. This Statement of Compliance is obtained from the manufacturer of the vehicle. Please visit the following URL for information on Compliance:-

The Motor Industry Association (MIA) supplies a list of contacts in NZ who are able to complete Statements of Compliance for particular make of vehicles. The estimated cost for this statement is between NZD500.00 and NZD750.00. This list of contact is available on the following site;-

Please note regulations may differ for temporary Imports and vehicles, which have already been exported from New Zealand.

If your vehicle is not a standard saloon vehicle e.g. Land Rover, Jeep, MPV, Caravan, Motor home or includes roof racks etc. it is important to advise the exact dimensions. For some shipping services the freight costs will be based on the length, width ∓ height.

Insurance with AXA Insurance I wish to insure my vehicle for representing the full overseas replacement cost.

Your vehicle should be insured for full replacement cost at destination - if it is not insured for this value, any insurance claim may be 'averaged' by the Insurers, and only a proportion of any such claim paid. If in doubt, please consult our Auto Export Department who will be pleased to assist. The insurance premium varies between 1.5-2.5% of the insured value subject to an excess/deductible which depends on the age and value of the vehicle, and other factors. The cover offered applies to all fixed accessories of the vehicle. Please note that in order to satisfy Customs ∓ Licensing Regulations, suitable evidence of authority to ship the vehicle must be presented. A copy of the Registration Document and/or Original Bill of Sale, plus your passport details, (copy required) should be sufficient in most jurisdictions. If neither of these documents are in the shipper's name a Letter of Authority from the owner of the vehicle should be supplied. This WILL be validated by us. Please refer to the information we provide in our customs section AND the authorities of the countries involved. Occasionally an export (or import) licence must also be obtained.
